Experts slugfest: Our updated 2024 Emmy predictions

Who to cut? Who not to cut? That is the question. Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here with their post-ballots Emmy predictions.

With several acting categories losing slots, some Emmy hopefuls, unfortunately, gotta go. The comedy supporting categories are dropping from seven to six slots, and while the obvious inclination would be to drop a borderline contender, one of us has ditched none other than Meryl Streep. The “Only Murders in the Building” star had been in first place in the odds until earlier this week, when she was surpassed by Hannah Einbinder (“Hacks”). But will the three-time Emmy winner really be snubbed?

There were no slot changes in the limited/TV supporting categories — still at seven — but it’s still anyone’s guess as to how the lineups will shake out. Could someone we all think is safe get snubbed? That has happened before in these categories (see: “The Queen’s Gambit’s” Marielle Heller and Bill Camp) — and sometimes their co-stars get nominated instead (see: “The Queen’s Gambit’s” Moses Ingram and Thomas Brodie-Sangster). Might this swap phenomenon afflict actors from “Fargo” or “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans” with so many hopefuls from each?
