‘Top Chef’ heads north of the border: Culinary competition going to Canada for season 22, eh

“Shut the front door, this is epic!” said “Top Chef” host and judge Kristen Kish in a recent Instagram Reel where fellow judge Gail Simmons, a Toronto native, announced that season 22 of the culinary series would be heading north of the border to Canada. This is the second time the show will be going abroad for the main competition. Previously, season 20, the “World All-Stars” season that assembled cheftestants from “Top Chef” editions around the world, brought the action to London, England.

Ryan Flynn, Senior Vice President, Current Production, NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a statement, “When the opportunity to feature Canada for ‘Top Chef’ season 22 arose, it was clear that exploring our northern neighbor was a natural choice. Canada’s diverse array of culinary traditions, multicultural influences, and distinctive regional specialties will serve as a perfect backdrop for our next batch of chefs competing for the coveted title.”

Gloria Loree, Senior Vice President, Marketing Strategy and Chief Marketing Officer, at Destination Canada, added, “‘Top Chef’ has a legacy of shining the brightest spotlights on unexpected culinary destinations, which is why we’re excited to bring season 22 to Canada. Canada’s culinary identity is rooted in our vast geography, the rhythm of our seasons, and the culture and traditions of our communities; yes that includes maple syrup and so much more. We’re excited to see it unfold through the judges, cheftestants’ challenges and experiences, and surprise viewers along the way.”

“Bring on the poutine and maple syrup,” reacts judge Tom Colicchio in the Reel. “Canada here we come!”
