Curious about the sustainability of buildings at the Brick Works? Maybe you have an interest in the ecology of the site and how we protect nature throughout. With Evergreen’s free immersive self-guided tours, we aim to reveal the hidden ways that ecosystems and people co-exist and co-create our most beloved urban places.

Supported by the TD Bank Group, the four experiences in the Ignite Series focus on:

  • Urban ecosystems and the roles visitors play as stewards of the land and water.
  • The hidden sustainable innovation at Evergreen Brick Works.
  • Mindful exploration of the relationship with the natural world, ourselves, and each other.
  • Podcast-style tapestry of community stories at the Brick Works.

Tour 1

Nature’s Playground: Treading Lightly

  • During this audio tour, we will guide you through six key points of interest connected to the important ecology and nature of Evergreen Brick Works.
  • Along the way, you will hear conversations with nature conservation experts and outdoor educators who will speak about some of the challenges we face in protecting urban ecosystems. They will also outline the steps we can all take to enjoy the outdoors while treading lightly and caring for the land.
  • The tour stopping points make a loop around the site and will include rivers, ponds, wetlands and native plant gardens. Audio will begin automatically as you approach each point of interest, and you will be notified when additional information is available through the Driftscape app.

Each story offers you an invitation – it is a moment where you are invited to engage with the land in ways you may not have considered before. The tour begins on ground level at the Watershed Wall and finishes up high at the Lookout Point. At the end of your journey, you will have a chance to relax, look out over Brick Works and the city beyond, and wonder what it means to be here.

Tour 4

Community Tapestry: This Brick Works Life

  • This podcast-style audio tour will investigate what Evergreen Brick Works means to the people who come here, through the stories and histories of five individuals. What is the thread that weaves the Brick Works community together? We’ll pull on that thread to explore why public places matter so much to the people that love them.
  • Hear from a local artist who spent his youth spray painting graffiti in the abandoned kilns, a Farmers’ Market vendor who has been here since the beginning, a daughter who remembers why this place is so special to her mother and more!
