The look was memorable Friday night, but the outcome wasn’t for Norfolk and its fans.

The Charlotte Knights scored seven runs in the first inning and went on to beat the Tides 9-2 before 6,348 at Harbor Park.

It was Negro League Tribute Night. The Tides donned jerseys and hats to celebrate the Norfolk Red Stockings, a team that played from 1878 into the early 1900s.

Charlotte (36-42) improved to 3-1 in the series against the Tides (37-42), the first for both clubs in the International League’s second half.

It was a rough night for veteran right-hander Julio Teheran (2-5), whose Norfolk earned-run average rose to 8.94 as he yielded seven earned runs, six hits and two walks while getting just two outs.

Norfolk relievers Trey McGough, Morgan McSweeney and Wandisson Charles were effective for the final eight innings, giving up a combined two runs and four hits, but the margin was too great for the Tides to overcome. One of their most-often-used bullpen pitchers, Matt Krook, was called up to the Baltimore Orioles earlier in the day as ace Corbin Burnes went on the paternity list.

Zach Remillard was 2 for 4 with a run and three RBIs for the Knights, the top affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. Mark Payton and Chuckie Robinson each had two hits and two RBIs, and Wilmer Difo was 2 for 3 and scored twice.

Charlotte used six pitchers, and the fifth of them — Aaron McGarity — pitched an inning for the victory.

Tides leadoff batter Jackson Holliday was 1 for 2 with three walks, extending his on-base streak to seven games. Connor Norby had a double and two walks.

Garrett Cooper, playing just his second game for Norfolk, and Kyle Stowers drove in the Tides’ runs, and Coby Mayo extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Tides right-hander Justin Armbruester (1-6, 9.20) is expected to start in Saturday’s 6:35 p.m. game.
