Amy MacKinnon is an editor, journalist, author, and former congressional aide with extensive experience covering topics ranging from public health to politics and climate change. She is currently the deputy op-ed page editor at The Boston Globe. Previously she served as the editorial page editor, social media editor, and morning news editor at The Patriot Ledger and as the editorial director for the New England Aquarium. At The Patriot Ledger, MacKinnon was awarded several regional news awards for editorials on national, state, and local issues, including first-place awards for editorial writing and editorial of the year. Her work has been featured in numerous publications including The Christian Science Monitor, Boston Globe, Washington Post, Huffington Post, Boston Herald, and on National Public Radio. MacKinnon’s novel “Tethered” (Random House) has been translated into 10 languages and published in 24 countries. It was a Target Original Voices Pick, and was reviewed in The New York Times (which called it “an hypnotic debut”), Boston Globe, The Guardian, Elle, Paris Match, Marie Claire Australia, among others. It was republished as “The Unforgotten” (Orion, 2018), and has been praised as “deeply engaging and memorable,” “haunting, thrilling, and beautifully drawn,” and a “rarity among debut authors.” A lifelong Globe reader, MacKinnon began her writing career at the age of 11 when she wrote the Father of the Year Committee in New York City, nominating her dad after reading a letter in "Ask the Globe." He won.
