Shawn Mendes spoke to a Toronto radio station about a collaboration with Korean boy band BTS, during which he assured listeners: “It’ll happen.”
“Latest on the collaboration, they’re a hard group to get with,” Mendes told Kiss 92.5’s The Roz & Mocha Show on Tuesday (June 19). “They’re busy people. I have no lyrics on their collaboration yet. It’ll happen. Promise. I can’t give you a date because we haven’t hung out and wrote a song yet, but it will happen. ‘Cause I love them and I think — their fans too. So I promise.”
The group and soloist met at the 2017 American Music Awards, where they discussed a potential collaboration on camera for BTS’ YouTube Channel.
Both BTS and Mendes have continued to address their desire to work together on music in past interviews and are known to be fans of one another.
The two acts recently each released new albums and topped the Billboard 200 in consecutive weeks. BTS’ Love Yourself: Tear, the first-ever Korean album to top the chart, hit No. 1 for the chart dated June 2, while Mendes topped the chart dated June 9 with his eponymous album.
