HELP! What’s wrong with her foot!?

Hey everyone! I came out this morning to find that my Favorite hen can’t walk on her foot. So I looked at it and I have no idea what’s going on! It looks very swollen, or just like a big ball in her foot! Does anyone know tell what it is? And how to fix it!? Thanks!

Soak her foot, then check for dark spot that indicate bumble foot.

Here I found a black scab, I am scared to be cutting open her foot. is there a different approach without being a surgeon?!

I'm not a surgeon either but handled it with one of mine not to long ago.

Hang on I will post you a couple pics from my phone. Tootsies foot was REALLY bad but with surgery and bandaging like the link I posted shows she healed well.

This is after I removed the black spot. It's tougher to cut than one would expect. An exacto with a rounded blade worked well. She didn't flinch at all. I had her wrapped in a towel with her head covered.



The top of her poor foot. This was after a week of healing. Yup it literally looked like it was going to explode it was so huge.



After 3-4 weeks of healing.

Thats bumble foot, its a form of staph infection. Antibiotics is the fastest and easiest and really only way to cure it.

Thanks! I just did the surgery, and then went to put gauze with silver gel on her foot, and she ate it out of my hand!!!! Will she be ok?!
