Juan Francisco Estrada vs. Jesse Rodriguez: Fight date, time, how to watch

José M. Romero
Arizona Republic

This weekend, downtown Phoenix is set to host Matchroom Boxing's "Crown Duel," headlined by the super flyweight title bout between Sonora, Mexico's Juan Francisco Estrada (44-3) and San Antonio native Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez (19-0). It's on Saturday at Footprint Center.

Though the lighter weight classes below welterweight for men don't get as bright a spotlight, this is still a matchup between outstanding fighters. It marks yet another Matchroom event in the Phoenix area, which has become a preferred location for the promotion, and the return of both fighters who have won big fights in Arizona in the past.

Estrada, 34, is the more experienced fighter and might have more of the crowd on his side, given that he is from just a few hours south of Phoenix. Rodriguez, 24, won flyweight belts at Glendale's Desert Diamond Arena last year with the crowd firmly behind him.

Fighters and Matchroom Sport chairman Eddie Hearn (center) gather for a news conference on May 8, 2024, announcing a boxing card headed by super flyweights Juan Francisco Estrada, the WBC World champion, and Jesse Rodriguez.
