Deborah Belgum

West Coast News Reporter

Deborah Belgum joined WWD in 2022 as a reporter in Los Angeles covering retail, real estate, business and breaking news. One of her first jobs was as a reporter in the Los Angeles bureau of the Associated Press where she learned that deadlines are every minute, not every hour, and you never know what you will be covering that day. She has worked at the Orange County Register, the Los Angeles Business Journal and the Los Angeles Times. She became fascinated with the clothing industry when she joined the California Apparel News as its senior editor, later being named its executive editor. Belgum has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of Colorado, Boulder, as well as a master’s degree in journalism from the same university. She later received a fellowship for Spanish-speaking journalists to study at the University of Southern California’s Center for International Journalism, concentrating on Latin American studies. She has used those studies well to report about Latin American apparel production, visiting dozens of factories in Guatemala, Colombia and Peru.
