The Droll Yankees Onyx Clever Clean and Fill Mixed Seed Bird Feeder features a twist-and-release removable base that comes apart and reassembles in seconds for fast, easy cleaning. A convenient one-touch opening allows you to fill the feeder with one hand even when the feeder is hanging. The seed tube has a 2-pound capacity for fewer refills, and the bird feeder has four feeding ports with comfort perches for accommodating multiple birds at once. A seed tray attracts a greater variety of birds. The feeder's unobstructed interior provides optimal seed flow and easy brush cleaning, and the 180-degree, two-position rings provide seed access from a variety of angles. The Onyx Clever Clean and Fill Bird Feeder works with sunflower seed, mixed seed, peanut chunks, safflower seed, sunflower kernels, and cracked corn. The seed tube is made from UV-stabilized polycarbonate that resists discoloration over time, and the black cap, base, and ports are made from heavy metal and are powder-coated for durability. This feeder either can be suspended from its stainless steel bail wire or pole mounted. The Onyx Clever Clean and Fill Mixed Seed Bird Feeder measures 6.75 by 6.75 by 19.63 inches. It is made in the USA.

I thought I was being ridiculous spending so much money on a feeder....but a bear came by recently and got into my feeders. The other brands were destroyed. This feeder survived!! There was damage to the button you use to open the feeder and nothing else - AND the customer service was FANTASTIC. I emailed the company and with no hassle they send me a replacement top at no cost to me. It is well designed, cleans easily and opens with a snap. It was worth the money.

Best Finch Feeder Ever! No doves!

Want to feed finches but not doves and pigeons?Then the Droll Yankees Onyx Finch Magnet is the feeder for you! The lack of perches means large hog birds can't eat from this feeder, leaving the finches to eat in peace. I have seen 11 birds at once on my 18 inch model. I have tried 3 different mixes in it. Regular nyjer, wild delight special finch and kaytee ultra finch. All work great. The build quality is excellent, no flex in the rock solid metal tube. My favorite feature though is the ease of cleaning. I usually clean the feeder every time it's empty. Or once every 5 days to a week. I am able to clean and dry the feeder in less than 10 minutes because it's mesh. I use disinfectant and a soft wool car rim brush to remove loose seed and droppings from the feeder. Then dry it with a leaf blower and microfiber cloth. It's very reasonably priced for the quality, made in USA too! I have two of them now because I liked the first one so much. Overall best Finch Feeder available.

Really nice feeder, spring loaded top is problematic

As others have mentioned, the spring loaded top isn't necessary or well designed. Ours came broken so that it could not close at all. It seems like the clasp meant to hold it shut isn't positioned correctly and it's not strong enough to keep the lid closed. Even if ours hadn't come broken it's a flimsy enough mechanism that I'd expect it to break quickly.

That being said, the spring is easy enough to remove, and if you don't include that the rest of the feeder is really thoughtfully designed and easy to use. So I guess if you're buying this for a spring loaded top look elsewhere, but if you want a nice bird feeder this is still a great choice.

Not much to say about this other than it's a great bird feeder. We have had it in our back yard, hung on a shephard's hook for a few months now. It's easy to refill (my young kids and I refill it ever few days) and the birds seem to love it.

In our area, we have male and female cardinals quite a bit, and a variety of other birds as well. I've actually downloaded an app to identify birds called "The Cornell Lab Merlin" app. It's great...you can give some descriptions of the birds you see, it'll help you narrow them down, and then you can log which birds you've seen in the app, where, and when. I'm sure they use it for research of some kind, but for users it's a useful app and it wouldn't' be possible without a quality bird feeder drawing in the birds.

It took several days, and some bird seed spread throughout the yard, to get the birds to come, but now that they're here, we have definite repeat customers. If you're in doubt of what kind of bird feeder to get, and this seems to be one you'd enjoy, buy it without a second thought. It's great. I got bird seed at Costco to fill it, which should last me several months.

Another top quality company destroyed by corporate greed. I have purchased many Droll Yankees products over the years and been completely happy with every one. Until the most recent. I just purchased a new Onyx feeder. Instead of the straight forward, solid reliable feeder I expected I get a fragile, overly complex piece of junk. Instead of the cast slip on cap there’s a spring loaded monstrosity that has lots of little parts to break. It doesn’t stay closed and it doesn’t hold the bail upright so I can hang the feeder. Instead of a straight tube the tube is molded with useless swoopy shapes. It came with a seed tray which is nice but the tray is much too small. I haven’t tried to remove the seed tray or the bottom of the feeder but it is not obvious how to do so and I’m not going to try. I’m sending it back. I did a little research and Droll Yankees was bought by some soulless corporation in 2017. That shows in the garbage products they are selling. Probably made overseas by dollar a day workers.

The model numbers are the same and the pictures above are of the product I expected to receive. Instead I got a cheap copy with Droll Yankees labeling. The box and all the labels and package inserts are exactly what I would expect from Droll Yankees so I think the product is genuine. It is the company that is now counterfeit. I hate to see another good company go down the drain.

Edit: Amazon has updated the pictures so the ones above are of the current junk product. I called Droll Yankees and indeed their new corporate masters dictated this change. The old management resisted the change but were forced into it. They had some of the old ones still in stock so I bought one of those. The old one was a five star product. Too bad they are gone.
