Later this year Tim embarks on an “In Conversation” tour of Australia and New Zealand, talking about his first non-fiction book: “You Don’t Have To Have A Dream (Advice for the Incrementally Ambitious)

Tim: “Australasian compadres: Chuffed here to announce a wee Aus/NZ Book Tour in late Sept / early Oct. It’ll just be me and a lovely, smart facilitator/interviewer sitting* on chairs and chatting about the ideas in You Don’t Have To Have A Dream, and answering some of your questions. *I might stand up if I feel strongly about something.”

In conversation with special guest interviewers (yet to be announced), hear Tim share his inimitable thoughts and advice on life, art, success, kindness, love and thriving in a meaningless universe. Drawing from his legendary university commencement addresses, Tim’s rallying cry for creativity, critical thinking, and compassion in our daily lives will touch the science-loving reality-romantic in all of us.

Tim: “Although I’m a bit nervous to be sitting on a stage without a piano to sugar the pill of my opinions with, I’m really excited to dig deeper into some of the ideas I explore in this book. And, knowing the calibre of my interlocutors and my audiences, I’m sure the chat will push out beyond just those!”

An Unfunny* Evening With Tim Minchin And His Piano

USA and Canada: The tour you’ve been clamouring for! Tim’s Unfunny* shows sold out across the UK and Australia… and he’ll be playing a 13-city North American Unfunny* tour this August, kicking off 3rd August 2024 in Vancouver, with the final show 25th August in New York.

Tim: “It has been over a decade since I played solo in the States, and I’m SO fkn excited to be back. Nothing compares to US audiences.”

The setlist will be fluid and the shows will have more of an unplanned intimate ‘evening with’ vibe as Tim chats about his songwriting and performs songs drawn from his 2020 studio album, Apart Together, his musicals, Matilda and Groundhog Day, his TV and film writing and from his early song-writing days around the turn of the century.

Tim wrote a song for the new TV mini series Eric which was released on Netflix last month.

Set in 1980s New York, the six part series drama, written by Abi Morgan, stars Benedict Cumberbatch as puppeteer Vincent, the creative genius behind a Sesame Street-esque show called Good Day Sunshine. When his nine year old son Edgar goes missing, Vincent becomes convinced that if he brings to life the new puppet Edgar had been inventing for the show – Eric – his son will come home. Eric, a seven foot tall muppet invisible to others, follows Vincent around…

Ooh look! I did a book!

You Don’t Have To Have a Dream (Advice For The Incrementally Ambitious)” is a gorgeously-bound collection of the 3 Occasional Addresses I’ve made at Universities that have given me Floppyhat Funtimes.

I’ve written some additional ponderous intros and I’m recording the audio book version and I’m going to sign a heap of the hard copies. Gorgeous illustrations by Andrew Rae and designed by Dave Brown.

Out in September in the UK and Australia. (US next year, sorry!) Pre-order available now here.

Stoked about this project. Xxx

A stellar cast has been announced for the award-winning and record-breaking Groundhog Day The Musical which will have its Australian premiere in Melbourne early next year.

Direct from its record-breaking return season at London’s Old Vic, Groundhog Day The Musical will play exclusively at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre, for a strictly limited season from January 24th, 2024. Must close April 20th 2024!

Andy Karl, will reprise his role as Phil Connors, the cynical TV weatherman. He played Phil in the original London production, for which he won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical, reprising his role in the Broadway production where he was Tony Nominated for Best Actor in a Musical, and he played Phil again in London for Groundhog Day’s record-breaking return season at the Old Vic this year.

Opposite Andy Karl, playing the quick-witted and kind-hearted television producer Rita Hanson, is Helpmann award-winning performer Elise McCann who played Miss Honey in Matilda in the Australian production.

Full details of the 22 strong cast can be found here or viewed on the second video below.

Tim: “I cannot wait to get down to Melbourne to meet our Groundhog Day The Musical cast. I’m especially excited by the news that Andy Karl will be joining the rest of the Australian cast, who are a brilliant bunch of people. Andy played Phil Connors in the original London production, for which he won an Olivier Award and then on Broadway for which he was Tony Nominated. Ever since the first iteration of Groundhog Day The Musical I’ve been convinced that Australia will love the mix of darkness and light, of head and heart, and complexity and joy in the production.”

Tickets available here and brand new tickets will go on sale on Thursday!.

This video is the latest version of the song, from Tim’s special, BACK, which was filmed at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in 2021 and released last year. There’s a YouTube Playlist here with two other versions from 2009 and 2017.

As many of you will already know, every year, all proceeds from the sale of (either version of) Tim’s sentimental Christmas song White Wine In The Sun during the months of November, December and January, go to an organisation which supports children and adults on the autism spectrum. Once again, that will be Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect).

If you already have the song, you might like to gift it via iTunes or donate directly here or to a similar charity in your own country.

There are two versions; the 2009 solo version and the 2012 studio version, with strings, french horn and more.

Here are a few more places you can download the 2012 single internationally: iTunes, Amazon (UK), Amazon (US) .

Tim’s four London Solo Gigs sold out super quickly so he’s decided to dart around the country and pop over to Ireland in June and July to perform some more shows further afield! Some will go on sale June 1st and the rest on June 8th. It’s a 90 minute show with no interval.

An Unfunny* Evening With Tim Minchin And His Piano

Warning: This is not a comedy gig. Attendance is not compulsory.

The Olivier Award-winning, Grammy and Tony Award nominated polytalent plays a handful of intimate, informal, solo dates in the UK this summer.

Tim will perform songs drawn from his 2020 studio album, Apart Together, from his musicals, Matilda and Groundhog Day, from his TV and film writing, and perhaps even some from his early songwriting days in the late 20th century.

The set list will be fluid, the chat unplanned, and the vibe informal. He may well get the audience to vote on some of the song choices.

This a rare chance for Minchin fans!
