The story of four teens’ friendship being tested by their inner-city Los Angeles neighborhood is what kept you most glued to Netflix in 2018.
The streaming giant on Tuesday released its own “Year in Review,” and among the highlights was a list of the series that enjoyed “the highest average watch time per viewing session (based on Stateside viewing through Nov. 28) — meaning, they’re the shows that you binged most intently, consuming lotsa episodes at once.
(For example, my biggest binge of 2018 was The End of the Fxxxing World, which I finished in two sittings, whereas Hill House took me about five sessions. But I’m also an old man.)
In order, Netflix’s biggest binges were:
1. On My Block
2. Making a Murderer: Part 2
3. 13 Reasons Why: Season 2
4. Last Chance U: INDY
5. Bodyguard
6. Fastest Car
7. The Haunting of Hill House
8. Anne with an E: Season 2
9. Insatiable
10. Orange Is the New Black: Season 6
Remember, a key metric by which Netflix decides to renew or cancel any show is the “completion rate” — the more who watch a season all the way through to the end, within a reasonable amount of time, the better.
Netflix also shared that of its original movies, “nearly 50 percent of viewers” (globally) rewatched The Kissing Booth and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, with Roxanne Roxanne placing third among flicks that merited multiple viewings.
What were your most intense binges of 2018?
haunting of hill house. couldn’t stop watching.
The new chilling adventures of Sabrina and Stranger Things were two of my fastest binged shows… both over two days each.
I can’t believe the last kingdom isn’t on the list it’s one of the best shows out anywhere period
I’ve never heard of half of them
To paraphrase Mark Twain…there are three types of lies: Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics. In short, I think these numbers have been rigged to justifu spme cancellations especiallu the Marvel ones.
excuse the typos.
Netflix doesn’t have to justify cancellations, especially the Marvel ones when circumstances changed so much from the beggining of production, and I guess there’s a reason why they fought to keep Friends while letting the Marvel’s shows go.
More to the point they don’t need to release any kind of information.
It does seem curious that the shows most well-known for being binge-musts aren’t on this list.
I watched all of the Marvel seasons in less than 24 hours each, and rewatched all the prior seasons (of all 6 of the shows, in release order) whenever a new season was about to drop.
I also binged every other Netflix series that took my interest in 48 hours or less (obviously, Stranger Things, The Expanse and Sabrina each passed by in less than a day), but the only show that I watched that made that list, was THOHH.
A lot of titles that made that list, seem to be comedies, when I look them up to find out what they’re about, but the only comedy I’ve watched on Netflix is The Santa Clarita Diet.
I’d be more interested in seeing the global results than those restricted to the USA. I watch almost as many non-English language series as English on Netflix.
On my block is one of the most underrated shows on Netflix. It doesn’t surprise me that it was the number 1 most binged shows. I watched the first season in over two days and periodically have been rewatching it so I’m refreshed when the new season comes out.
I’m a new viewer and binging so my favorites are The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.
