The Late Show with Stephen Colbert had a rather unusual guest on Wednesday night: a ‘dead’ voter called Horace McNulty.
Colbert referred to recent comments made by Donald Trump at a Wisconsin rally, where the presidential candidate told supporters “More than 1.8 million deceased individuals are right now listed as voters… [and of] the 1.8 million, 1.8 million is voting for somebody else”.
Explaining that he wanted to find out whether the dead really were voting, Colbert then welcomed his guest, Hugh Laurie wearing angel wings, introducing him as Horace McNulty, live via satellite.
“Well, I am not technically ‘live’ via satellite,” Horace (or Hugh) said. “I just played a round of golf with Marilyn Monroe and Julius Caesar. No one won, we each got 18 holes in one. Heaven’s just incredibly boring.”
Horace went on to explain that despite being a lifelong Republican, he is a “deathlong Independent”. “My point is, I’m for Hillary all the way,” he added. “[The elections aren’t] rigged, it’s just the options. Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, they don’t have a chance in hell. I know because I’ve got some friends down there.”
“Sure, I love Trump… on The Apprentice, but as President – no, dear god,” he concluded. “Even in my day we didn’t treat women like that and even back then a woman’s best career option was dying in childbirth.”
