In 2009, The Hangover showed us what can happen when a few guys looking for a last hurrah before marriage take their escapade a step (or fifty) too far. Bad Moms, penned by The Hangover’s Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, fast-forwards from bachelorhood to parenthood, flips its protagonists’ genders and offers what looks to be an otherwise familiar alcohol-fueled rampage, this time in protest of the exhausting expectations that accompany modern motherhood.
Mila Kunis stars as the ringleader of the so-called “bad moms.” After giving an impassioned speech at a PTA meeting (led by queen of the good moms, played by Christina Applegate), she recruits two like-minded mamas (Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn) to join her in taking a hiatus from the quest for maternal perfection. What follows is a revenge fantasy made in mommy purgatory: bringing store-bought goods to a bake sale, fighting the good fight against unsexy bras and, naturally, whip-its.
Bad Moms, with a cast rounded out by Annie Mumolo and Jada Pinkett Smith, hits theaters on July 29.
