Update: Louis C.K. later clarified his comments in an interview with Bill Simmons, saying: “I am so not broke.”
Louis C.K. has canceled his latest web series, Horace and Pete, after the first season left him “millions of dollars in debt.”
The comedian confirmed on Saturday that the dark comedy he surprised fans with in February by premiering it on his website will no longer continue after the final episode aired April 2, according to the Los Angeles Times. “I didn’t want to say, in the last e-mail, that it was the last episode. Because I didn’t want you to know, as you watched the episode, that it would be the last one,” he wrote in an email to subscribers, according to the newspaper. “But yeah, obviously, that was it.”
“So now the show is finished,” he added. “It’s complete. Now I’ll go and tell the world about it, and ask them to come see what we made.”
The Louie star plays “Horace” in his new show, alongside co-star Steve Buscemi as “Pete.” Both portray Brooklynites who run a bar. Viewers had to pay per episode while streaming it through Louis C.K.’s website. The entire series, which has 10 episodes, can now be purchased for $31.
C.K. recently said in an interview with Howard Stern that he is now “millions of dollars in debt” after taking out a credit line to finance the show’s creation.
