Fans of the ’80s film The Goonies may no longer make the pilgrimage to see the home featured in the film.
The house, which is located in Astoria, Ore., is no longer open to visitors and tourists. The homeowner has closed off the home, since thousands of people come to check it out every day.
Astoria City Councilman Russ Warr told KGW that he was surprised the homeowner had waited that long to close off her home. He said that in the past not very many people would drop by, but due to social media, an estimated that 1,200 and 1,500 people visited the home every day. The homeowner used to give tours, but it’s become too much of a nuisance. “They park on the ‘no-parking’ zones, they park on the sidewalks, they relieve their dogs on their lawns,” he said.
KGW said the city recently celebrated the film’s 30th anniversary. The film is estimated to have brought the city’s economy $3 million.
