Foo Fighters were forced to cancel all of their remaining European and U.K. tour dates on Tuesday after Dave Grohl’s leg injury proved to be more serious than expected. One of those dates was a headlining set at British music festival, Glastonbury. The festival has now announced that Florence + The Machine, who had already been slotted to perform, will take over the headlining set on Friday night.
“We are very pleased to announce that Florence + The Machine will play the Friday night Pyramid headline slot, which Foo Fighters were forced to withdraw from yesterday,” Glastonbury posted on its website.
“Once we heard the sad news that Foo Fighters had been forced to pull out, there was only one person we wanted to call and that was Florence,” fest co-organizer Emily Eavis said in a statement. “Every time she has played here she’s done something spectacular and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid one day. I’m delighted she’s agreed to step up to it — she’s going to smash it!”
Florence Welch is also coming off a leg injury, sustained while jumping off the stage at Coachella in April. The next few shows required her to perform with crutches, but she recently played full-fledged sets at Bonnaroo and Governors Ball, both without crutches.
