With such a vast cast of characters and labyrinthine storylines, Game of Thrones viewers occasionally need reminders about the show’s many twists and turns. But fans have grown increasingly annoyed by the ‘previously on’ segments that roll before episodes, saying that the refreshers serve only to spoil what’s about to come.
As Sunday’s season 5 finale kicked off, fans were especially peeved at reminders of past events, some of which happened so long ago in the series’ history that they seemed to be dead giveaways of plot points on the episode. Many took to social media to complain about the spoilers:
Maybe by next season, HBO will find a way to refresh viewers’ memories without giving away everything that’s to come.
