Netflix's hit series "Bridgerton," and its seemingly endless lineup of stunning empire waist dresses is back. Based on the novels by Julia Quinn, the Shondaland series is one of the biggest television events of the year. Its prior two seasons and spinoff series about Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) have set legions of romance fans all aflutter.

This season, the spotlight is on the long-awaited romance between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), as Colin and Penelope work together to find Penelope a husband. The third season comes on the heels of a much-discussed lead-up press tour, throughout which Coughlan and Newton have explored the ways that their real-life chemistry impacts their work on the series.

What is 'Bridgerton' about?

"Bridgerton" follows the lives and romances of the Bridgerton family in a fictionalized version of Regency-era England, in which Queen Charlotte's reign has ushered in a newly racially integrated London society. The first two seasons followed the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), and the eldest son, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), as they found love among the families and individuals that make up the ton, or the social world of the nobility and gentry, under the watchful eyes of matriarchs like Queen Charlotte herself and Lady Dandury (Adjoa Andoh).

Much of the drama of the first season, especially, came from the advent of a scandal sheet written by an anonymous, connected author, Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews). Season three focuses on the relationship between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, the third Bridgerton son. Penelope and Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) have long been intertwined, and from the trailer, it's clear that Eloise has caught wind of her brother's attention to Penelope.

The third season brings back Anthony, his new wife Kate (Simone Ashley), and the rest of the Featherington and Bridgerton families. Daphne Bridgerton and her husband the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) do not appear in season three.
