Elton John officially confirms he will never tour again — here’s why

Goodbye yellow brick road.

Elton John has confirmed that he’ll never tour again.

In an Entertainment Tonight interview published on June 27, the iconic singer and musician, 77, was asked if he ever plans on going on the road again. John gave a decisive reply: “No.”

His husband, David Furnish, 61, chimed in to add, “We’ve got our sons, you know, they’re getting into their teenage years now. We don’t want to miss anything. We want to be present for that. It’s sort of a key decade, I think, in a child’s life.”

Furnish added about John, “He’s been doing it for 60 years. So it’s nice to have that time to spend at home with family.”

John and Furnish have been together since 1993, and married since 2014.

Together, they share sons Zachary Jackson, 13, and Elijah Joseph, 11.

The EGOT winner’s final world tour, “Farewell Yellow Brick Road,” began in 2018 in North America and finished in Stockholm, Sweden, in July 2023. At the time, John told the crowd it had been “52 years of pure joy.”

Furnish shared a video on Instagram of him and the couple’s sons waving from the side of the stage during the “Tiny Dancer” singer’s final show in Stockholm.

“And off he goes … 🚀 One final trip down the Yellow Brick Road 💫 330 shows under his belt 💪🏼🎹 Finally off the road and into the sunset 🌈☀️,” Furnish wrote in the caption.

“So excited for the next chapter together 👨‍👨‍👦‍👦 We love you Daddy ❤️.”

In a 2022 interview with Robin Roberts on “Good Morning America,” John opened up about his sons

“They both play the piano, and Elijah started playing the trumpet,” the “Rocketman” singer said at the time.

“Elijah is heading towards the stage. I don’t know what Zachary’s gonna do — his passion is fishing. And the greatest thing about my life is that when we had these children, everything changed.”

“That’s why I’m coming off the road,” the “Bennie and the Jets” singer added.

“What more could I want? I’ve had enough applause … I just want the applause of my children saying, ‘You’ve been a good dad.’ ”

In January, the couple celebrated their youngest son’s 11th birthday.

In an Instagram post, John and Furnish shared a photo of a birthday cake.

“Happy Birthday to our beautiful son Elijah. Can’t believe you’re 11!” the joint post read. “You fill our hearts with so much love and laughter. We love you. Papa and Daddy xo.”
