Sunbather impaled by umbrella in freak Florida beach accident

A woman was recently impaled by a runaway umbrella while sunbathing on a Florida beach, according to local officials.

Sybil Licht was visiting Cocoa Beach with her family when their rental umbrella came out of its spot in the sand and flew at the group, WESH reported, citing the Cocoa Beach Police Department.

The umbrella pole became impaled in Licht’s leg, the authorities said.

First responders had to use bolt cutters to remove the umbrella canopy from the pole, which kept moving while still stuck in the victim, officials told Fox News Digital.

As of Wednesday afternoon, it was not clear exactly how the freak accident occurred or what Licht’s current condition was.

The scene was handled by the Brevard County Fire Rescue and the Cocoa Beach Fire Department, the Cocoa Beach Police told The Post.

The incident was believed to have taken place on Saturday, but the police were unable to confirm the date.

The fire rescue and the fire department did not return The Post’s request for a comment on the incident.
