The late architect Thierry Despont’s handsome Southampton estate has found a new owner

The Southampton estate of the late architect and designer Thierry Despont has found a buyer, Gimme Shelter has learned.

The stunning property, known as the Rosewood Farm Estate, sits on 34 acres and includes a six-bedroom main residence.

It was last asking $18.4 million — and entered into contract at around $18 million, we hear. The identity of the forthcoming owner isn’t yet known.

Despont was born in Limoges, France, and made his name refurbishing France’s greatest gift to the United States: the Statue of Liberty. He also restored other landmarked buildings, including the Carlyle Hotel and the Woolworth Building in New York, as well as the Ritz in Paris. His private clients included Bill Gates and Calvin Klein.

Despont passed away last year at age 75 in this Hamptons home.

Built on the site of the original 1920s Southampton Riding and Hunt Club, the estate, at 320 Majors Path, first hit the market for $23.5 million in 2022.

The offering includes a main house, where every room overlooks a cobblestoned courtyard with a fountain. The landscaped grounds include a tree-lined path that leads to an infinity-edge pool and a pool house — which includes a lounge area, a workout room and a sauna.

The grounds, which include mature specimen trees from Africa, also feature a meadow with a walking path and a gazebo

There’s also a four-bedroom guesthouse.

Between 2011 and 2013, Despont spent $8.55 million buying three parcels, and they look out onto a 50-acre agricultural reserve.

The six-bedroom home was built from a converted barn. It has two wings inside, which were formerly horse stalls, that have since been converted into guest rooms.

Another barn was transformed into the pool house.

A third barn once served as Despont’s art studio, as he was also a painter and sculptor. That barn is now a four-car garage.

Listing brokers Paul Brennan, Michaela Keszler and Martha Gundersen of Douglas Elliman declined to comment.
