Shark AI Ultra Robot review: The 2-in-1 vacuum and mop is a game changer

When it comes to cleaning, two really is better than one.

Well, actually, the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop is really only one device, but with the dual cleaning power of both a vacuum and a mop to get the job done.

Robot vacuums are all the rage in the area of automation, especially when working from home and spending more time pacing the floors, playing with pets and cooking in the kitchen. All of this can make for some seriously dirty floors and carpets, which is where the Shark AI Ultra comes into play.

Since the above activities perfectly describe this New York Post writer, we decided to put the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop to the test in our home, complete with cats, dogs, hardwood floors and carpets right here in New York.

What is the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop?

Well, for starters, it will be your new BFF.

Joking aside, the robot has an even longer name, but an important one to highlight all of its amazing features. The full title is the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop with Sonic Mopping, Matrix Clean, HEPA Bagless Self Empty, ($700) — which is a mouthful to say but very simple and sleek to use.

Breaking it down, the robot comes with two attachments: a regular vacuuming self-empty dust bin and a vacuum and mop 2-in-1 dust bin. The latter has a reservoir for water and a cleaning solution the robot vac uses to  mops floors while also simultaneously vacuuming, eliminating the need to vacuum before you mop. It uses Shark’s trademark Sonic Mopping feature as well, getting floors clean the first time, without needing to go over any missed spots.

“Sonic Mopping scrubs hard floors 100 times per minute, and for extra deep cleaning, initiate Ultra Mop in the app to get 50% better stain cleaning in targeted zones,” said the brand in a press release.

The rest of the Shark’s smart vacuum includes features such as “Matrix Clean” and “HEPA Bagless Self Empty.” Matrix Clean is the system in which the robot maps a grid over floors for a multi-pass clean ensuring no spots are missed.

HEPA Bagless Self Empty may be our favorite feature, as the least fun part of a robot vacuum is emptying the base and watching a cloud of dust and debris fill the air. No more dealing with that here, as the base can hold up to 60 days of dirt at a time, and the HEPA filtration traps up to 99.97%* of the dust and allergens you collected in the first place.

Breaking it all down, this robot vacuum and mop combo does both functions simultaneously, won’t miss a spot, and doesn’t need to be emptied more than once every two months. Are you pressing check out yet?

Our Review of the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop

This was my favorite part, as I personally love figuring out new gadgets. Setting up the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop was super simple, as everything comes in one box and there is only one sheet of instructions. After unboxing and removing all stickers and protective wrapping, the only thing I had to figure out was where to put the device in my small apartment.

I chose a hard-wood floor area, which would have made me nervous if not for the great Landing Mat that comes with the docking station and robot. It fit perfectly on my floor and protected my wood from any scratches or wet spots.

The only other part was downloading the app, which is available on both iPhone and Android devices. Pairing the base to my WiFi was a breeze and then all of a sudden I was startled by my robot speaking to me, telling me it was all ready to go — very Jetsons!

One adorable feature of the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop is the ability to name it. I chose Dorota, after my favorite housekeeper from the show “Gossip Girl” and I have now started talking to her — don’t judge me. The app then updates with the chosen name, letting you program it, see battery life, troubleshoot issues and more at the tap of your finger.

I decided to have Dorota learn my kitchenette and living room first, as with many small Brooklyn apartments, we spend the majority of our time cooking and playing with the cats and dog in this one, high-traffic area. During the first session, the robot makes sure to hit every area, making a mental (does Dorota have a mind? I’d like to think so) map of the space using the Matrix Clean feature, using a 360-degree view of the space.

Once the map was made using the regular vacuuming function, you can then add No-Wet Zones, outlining where rugs are so that the mop function is turned off for those. I did so for our living room rug, as I wanted the pet hair removed and not a soggy rug.

In summation: The Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop

  • Dual vacuuming and mopping abilities
  • Easy to learn via the Shark app
  • Works on hardwood and carpets
  • Great for pets and high-traffic areas
  • $700, and includes the self-empty base with 60-day storage
  • Vacuum is wireless, but base needs an outlet and a WiFi connection
  • Can be a bit loud, so opt for daytime use in the bedrooms

Also, reminder to shop now for our special discounts of $200 off the self-empty model with code NYPOST200 or $150 off the non-self-empty device with code NYPOST150.
