Dolphins parking lot fire torches 11 cars during Patriots game

A number of fans attending Dolphins-Patriots game in Miami returned to the parking lot after the game to find their cars had gone up in smoke.

One of those cars belonged to Scott Dellorfano, who told NBC Miami that he lost his Mercedes S63 — and $3,000 cash in the vehicle — in the inferno.

“They said a grill caught on fire, it set off another car that blew up and it took out five or six cars. That’s what the police told me. I got insurance, you call stadium legal people, and then go from there,” he said.

Dellorfano says he was told that a tailgating grill that wasn’t put out was apparently left under a car, which then caught fire. It spread from there.

A spokesperson for the fire department told TMZ that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“We’re standing here, we’re all having a great time, and we see a lot of big, black smoke over there,” a Dolphins fan told WVSN. “We’re like, ‘Oh, what’s going on? We start looking and, ‘Oh, it’s a fire. Next thing we know, we hear a few pops; it’s tires going off.”

WVSN reported that 11 vehicles caught fire in the parking lot. Firefighters spent about a half hour putting out the blaze.

Smoke from the fire was visible from inside Hard Rock Stadium.

There were no reported injuries in the incident.
