Former Vanity Fair photographer/reporter Rachel DeLoache Williams wrote the book “My Friend Anna: The True Story of a Fake Heiress.” HBO bought rights to this fake-o German heiress saga. New York Magazine did the article. NY Times ballyhooed it as a Must Read. Netflix produced its series “Inventing Anna.”
On Netflix most names were fictitious. But Rachel, portrayed on it as buddies with Anna Sorokin, was ID’d. She’s now suing Netflix for defamation.
Claiming she was “falsely portrayed as greedy, snobbish, disloyal, dishonest, cowardly, manipulative, opportunistic,” sponging off Anna then abandoning her in Morocco. In fact, Williams was the one who turned Sorokin over to the authorities.
