Phillies vs. Cardinals odds, prediction: Philadelphia has their number

Things have not gone well for the St. Louis Cardinals when Carlos Martinez has taken the mound, with the team 0-4 in his starts this season and 1-8 since 2020 began. But he will try to change that on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Martinez has allowed at least three runs in three of his four starts this season and seven of his nine since the start of the 2020 season. He has compiled a 7.90 ERA with 1.8 home runs allowed per nine innings the past two seasons.

Zach Eflin has had a much better stretch for the Phillies, who are 10-2 in his past 12 starts dating back to the 2020 season, and has a 2.77 ERA this season with just two walks issued in 26 innings.

In the series these teams had earlier in the month, the Phillies won two of the three games, out-scoring the Cardinals 15-11 in the three games with Martinez giving up six runs in five innings in the start he had on April 16.

In the same game in which Martinez got shelled, Eflin allowed two runs in seven innings to collect the win. With the Cardinals averaging a half run less at home than on the road offensively, Eflin should duplicate the win he netted the Phillies earlier in the month.
