Giants cut journeyman cornerback Ryan Lewis

Maybe, given the arc of his NFL career to date, cornerback Ryan Lewis expected his release by the Giants.

After Lewis played just one season with the Giants, they announced his release Wednesday.

Lewis entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2017, signing with the Cardinals before bouncing around the league — including a stint on the Patriots’ practice squad when they went to Super Bowl LII.

After being cut by Washington before the 2020 season, Lewis was signed to the Giants’ practice squad and then added to the main roster in Week 3.

He played five games with the Giants, starting three, and he recorded 13 total tackles with 11 solos and only one pass breakup.

Lewis was one of several players who attempted to fill the hole at the starting corner spot opposite Pro Bowler James Bradberry. None of them really stuck.

Lewis became expendable when the Giants signed free agent Adoree’ Jackson this offseason.
