Long Island driver killed woman he knew in hit-and-run: cops

A Long Island driver was busted after he fatally struck a woman he knew and then fled, cops said Tuesday.

Mary Ginty, 31, of Sound Beach was walking north on Miller Place Road in Miller Place just before 10 p.m. Monday when 30-year-old John Lang slammed into her in his 2017 Hyundai Elantra, police said.

He then drove off, according to cops.

Ginty was rushed to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, where she was pronounced dead.

Following an investigation, Lang was arrested at his parents’ home in Ridge just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

Lang is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.

The exact relationship between Ginty and Lang was not immediately known.
