The Giants are slowly but surely getting contracts finalized with their 2019 draft class, which was a large one, with 10 players taken this year. On Friday, they signed two of their three first-round picks, securing defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and cornerback DeAndre Baker.
The only unsigned draft picks are quarterback Daniel Jones and outside linebacker Oshane Ximines. Jones, as the No. 6 overall pick, is expected to eventually land a four-year deal worth $25.7 million, with around $16 million in guaranteed money.Lawrence arrived with the No. 17 selection, a pick acquired from the Browns in the mega-trade that sent Odell Beckham Jr. to Cleveland. Lawrence started 36 games and helped anchor Clemson’s ferocious defense. He lined up with the starters in most of the work this spring at the organized team activity practices and the mini-camp. The Giants are intrigued by the youth and power they have with a three-man line of Lawrence, B.J. Hill and Dalvin Tomlinson. Lawrence is projected to get a four-year contract worth $13 million.
The Giants traded up into the back end of the first round to get Baker at No. 30. Baker started 34 games at Georgia and played with the first unit on defense more often than not this spring. He is in line to start at outside cornerback opposite veteran Janoris Jenkins, as the Giants are excited about Baker’s ability to cover receivers in man-to-man situations. Baker’s deal is expected to be a four-year, $10.5 million contract.
The expectation is Jones and Ximines will sign well before Giants rookies report to training camp July 22.
