Chris Berman in middle of Red Sox’s unique broadcasting strategy

Chris Berman is back, back, back, for a stint at least.

The former longtime face and voice of ESPN, who has been mostly on the sideline since the 2016-17 football season, is among the rotating cast of radio broadcasters who will sit in WEEI’s Red Sox booth, Entercom announced Thursday.

Also in that revolving door will be former Mets voice on WOR Josh Lewin, ex-“Monday Night Football” play-by-player Sean McDonough, ex-Tigers announcer Mario Impemba, surfacing after he fought with his partner last season, and Lou Merloni, all sitting beside veteran broadcaster Joe Castiglione.

Berman, who is from Connecticut, has begun taking a slightly bigger role at ESPN, appearing in sporadic NFL roles at the Worldwide Leader, though a full-fledged comeback has not taken place. For years he was the voice of the Home Run Derby, his “back, back back” calls being his trademark, which were either hated or beloved.

Lewin, meanwhile, will be a busy man. He left the Mets for the Padres this offseason and said most of the Red Sox games he’ll do “are west of the Mississippi.”
