Christina Aguilera has officially made a comeback

Christina Aguilera is back — for real this time.

Her new LP, “Liberation,” stars the singer’s Olympian pipes for the first time since 2006’s “Back to Basics.”

It’s taken Aguilera a long time to get her mojo back. In the mid-2000s, she seemed on track to be The Voice of her pop-singer generation, with memorable hits (“What a Girl Wants,” “Beautiful” and “Ain’t No Other Man”) and Grammy wins.

But in 2010, she slipped. Her electro-infused LP “Bionic” lacked her electric belting — and fans and critics took note. When the album failed to generate any real hits, Xtina seemed to press the panic button: She joined “The Voice” in 2011, and has only released one album since (2012’s underperforming “Lotus”).

So it’s great to hear Aguilera rediscovering her voice and getting back to doing what she does best. “Liberation” frees up the diva to showcase her dynamic delivery over a range of styles. There’s gospel-infused drama (the Michael Jackson-sampling “Maria”), slamming ’70s funk (the live-sounding “Sick of Sittin’ ”) and chilled-out hip-hop (the Anderson .Paak-produced “Like I Do,” featuring rapper GoldLink).

But best of all, there are ballads, the kind that Aguilera can pour her heart — and lungs — into. The single “Fall in Line” is a double-diva throwdown with Demi Lovato, but even better are back-to-back beauties “Masochist” and “Unless It’s with You,” which find her digging into her feelings and her soul. Ballads like these and the haunting “Twice” remind you about just who Xtina is.

With Whitney Houston no longer here, and Mariah Carey’s voice lacking its former power, we need this Christina in the game. Welcome back.
