An FBI investigator was fired from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between the President Trump’s campaign and Russia this summer after he exchanged anti-Trump texts with a bureau lawyer with whom he was having an affair, said news reports.
Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page exchanged messages that had anti-Trump and pro-Hillary Clinton comments, according to The Washington Post.
The messages were reportedly sent while the two were having an extramarital affair in 2016 during the investigation into Clinton’s private email server.
Strzok had a key role in the Clinton investigation, reports said.
Fox News reported Friday night that the Justice Department is reviewing Strzok’s role in the Clinton probe.
A source told Fox that the probe, which will examine Strzok’s roles in other politically sensitive cases, should be completed by “very early next year.”
Strzok was taken off the Mueller probe in August after the texts came to light while Page reportedly left the team in July before any issues were raised, The Washington Post reported.
The messages are now being reviewed by officials and included the lovers reacting to news events, like the 2016 debates.
