Corrections department workers found dead in murder-suicide

Two employees at the New Jersey Department of Corrections were found dead over the weekend from an apparent murder-suicide.

Police said that the bodies of the couple were discovered Saturday night in a basement at their home in Bridgeton, New Jersey, the West Deptford Patch reported.

The victims were identified Monday as Stephanie Meyer, 45, a senior corrections officer at Bayside State Prison; and Joseph Williams, 43, a senior investigator at Southern State Correctional Facility.

Authorities said evidence indicated that Williams likely shot Meyer before turning the gun on himself.

Police were called to the home after receiving a call from a concerned friend who was unable to reach Meyer.

Bridgeton Police and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office will continue to investigate the incident.
