Washington Heights fire possibly ‘suspicious’

A Washington Heights fire that seriously injured one firefighter and left three others with lesser injuries is being investigated as suspicious, sources said Wednesday.

The raging four alarm fire that started in a bodega on the first floor of a St. Nicholas Avenue building around 10:30 a.m. Monday, spread rapidly to upper level apartments, the FDNY said.

One firefighter was seriously injured in the blaze and is still being treated at St. Luke’s Hospital, sources said.

Three other firefighters and two civilians were treated at the scene, officials said.

The investigation is ongoing and they have not ruled out arson, officials said.
