Now he’s a real Yankee!
Bombers second baseman Robinson Cano proudly told the world he’s an American Tuesday, tweeting stars-and-stripes pictures of himself at a US citizenship swearing-in ceremony.
“Very proud day for me, I just became a US citizen, God bless America!” Cano wrote, above a picture of himself with a small American flag and his citizenship certificate.
He posted another picture of himself, with his right hand raised taking the solemn oath of American citizenship.
Cano immediately picked up online well wishes from Major League Baseball and Athletes Quarterly magazine.
“Thank you guys!” Cano responded.
The 30-year-old was born and raised in the Dominican Republic baseball hot spot of San Pedro de Macoris.
He just finished his eighth season in the Bronx this fall. He smacked a career -high 33 home runs, but drew the ire of Yankees fans for a terrible postseason.
Cano in 2013 will be in the final season of a four-year, $30 million deal with the Yankees.
