Giants’ Manning named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

It did not take long for Giants quarterback Eli Manning to reverse a rough start to his season, and the NFL acknowledged his turnaround Tuesday when he was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after a standout performance in a 29-16 victory over the Eagles in Philadelphia.

Manning completed 16 of 23 passes for 254 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. Manning’s passer rating came out to 145.7, his highest in a game in which he threw more than 10 passes. It was the fifth-highest passer rating by a Giants quarterback since the NFL went to a 16-game schedule in 1978.

This is the second time in his career Manning won a Player of the Week award. The first was in the second week of the 2006 season, when he led the Giants to a come-from-behind victory over the Eagles.

Since a poor outing in the season opener in Washington and starting off the Rams game completing three of his first 11 passes, Manning has had a hot hand, completing 32 of 42 passes for 435 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions for a rating in that span of 148.3.
