Tree lighting makes Bergen Beach glow with seasonal spirit

’Twas the time for merry dancing, and 6-year-old reveler Wynter Hubbard let her feet to the rejoicing when she kicked up her heels at the John Malone Community Center on Saturday to help step off Yuletide cheer at the Bergen Beach facility with a tree-lighting ceremony.

A handsome spruce, necklaced by twinkling lights, was illuminated to a roar of cheers from a crowd braving the cold in front of the Bergen Beach Youth Organization-run facility at Bergen Avenue and Avenue W.

Bright-eyed sisters Jacqueline and Sofia Reinhardt rattled off their wish lists to the fat man in the red suit, who so enchanted lil’ Dominique Jones of Canarsie that she made a beeline for him and gave him a big holiday hug.

Paul Curiale, executive director of Millennium Development, which organized the event, also teamed up with St. Nick — played by Millennium Associate Director Nicholas Miller — to sing Christmas carols.

A romp with Santa was just the tip of the festive ice-berg, though. There was also live entertainment by dancers from Elizabeth’s Dance Image, who had mom, dad and the kids toe-tapping along to a selection of holiday favorites.

Bensonhurst beauty Demi DelPrior could barely contain her excitement as she assumed the most important role of the evening: Counting down from 10 to light the towering timber.

“It was such a great family event, we had a ton of fun,” said Evelyn Hall, who brought along her two toddlers.
