A Long Island couple has been busted for pretending to be interested in purchasing pricey diamond engagement rings — and then substituting fake sparklers for the real ones, police said.
John Cumbow, 29, of Sound Beach, would contact sellers on Craigslist and then meet them to look at their rings, Suffolk cops said. He would make the switch and his victims would not realize until later that they had been left with a worthless replica, investigators said.
He has been charged with grand larceny.
His girlfriend, Amanda Carullo, 21, of Holtsville, was charged in two robberies.
