New QB comes aboard

By PAUL SCHWARTZ

Look out Eli.

Well, not quite, but the Giants did add another body to their quarterback pool by drafting QB Rhett Bomar out of Sam Houston State in the fifth round of the NFL Draft.

Bomar originally went to Oklahoma and started 10 games in 2005. He ran into some trouble – he was cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol and later dismissed from the team for violating team rules. It seems he worked at local car dealership and received payment over an extended period of time in excess of time actually worked.

Bomar spent his final two college years at Sam Houston State. This past season, he started 10 games, threw 27 touchdown passes and became the school’s all-time leading passer. He has a strong arm but has never been much better than 50 percent as far as accuracy. He figures to compete with Andre Woodson – he was a sixth-round draft pick last year who spent the season on the practice squad.

The Giants last season went with only two quarterbacks on the roster, Manning and David Carr. Now it appears Bomar and Woodson will go against each other for the third spot.
