MIR GADKHEL, Afghanistan — Dozens of people were feared dead and scores of houses destroyed by an earthquake in eastern Afghanistan early today, villagers and an eyewitness said.
A Reuters Television cameraman in the village of Mir Gadkhel, about 30 miles west of the city of Jalalabad, said residents were scrambling through rubble to recover bodies and rescue the injured.
