LESSON IN NAVAL HISTORY

City officials yesterday unveiled plans for a historical center at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

The yard, which was decommissioned by the Navy in 1966 and sold to the city, is undergoing a transformation and has been “writing a new story of success as one of the busiest urban industrial parks in the country,” Mayor Bloomberg said, announcing the $15 million project.

The new center will be put in the U.S. Marine Corps commandant’s residence, which was built in 1857 and must be renovated and modernized.
