After losing the lead in midstretch, favored Indian Flare came back again on the rail and was able to defeat Oprah Winney by a half-length in the Grade 2, $150,000 Vagrancy Handicap for fillies and mares. Any Limit was another 63/4 lengths back in third. Javier Castellano rode the Bobby Frankel trainee to victory, running the 6½ furlongs in 1:16.44.
In the supporting feature, Gimmie Credit drew off in the stretch to win the $70,200 Notoriety Stakes by 31/4 lengths over First Word.
Jockey Alan Garcia was suspended 7 days for careless riding during the running of the ninth race on Wednesday. Having withdrawn his appeal, the suspension is reduced to three days and Garcia will serve the days from June 20-22.
1ST RACE – While favored Jesses Justice easily handled this field of state-breds, there were a couple of horses with trips that need to be followed next time out. Heavenly Anna tried to make a run in the stretch but got caught in traffic. Once clear, she finished well to be second. Kats Golden Ways was also trying to make a run in the stretch drive but was caught in traffic and could never find a clear running lane.
2ND RACE – First baby race of the year provided the usual results. Juvenile firster Saber Jet Reprized throws jock in post parade, runs off and finds her way back to her barn on the backstretch. Todd Pletcher firster Sea Chanter is heavily bet and then draws away to an easy victory at 3-4. Queen of Protocol acted up in the gate and then bore out slightly at the start. She made a three wide move and finished second.
5TH RACE – One thing about Eibar Coa, he is aggressive on the track and he forces his fellow jockeys to adjust their position whenever Coa is in contention. Coa sent Baby Rusch to the lead and, on the far turn, he left a slight opening on the rail that Raul Rojas on Seeking the Glory tried to get through. But midway on the turn, the hole disappeared and Seeking the Glory had to check, losing all momentum and any chance to win. Baby Rusch went on to victory while Seeking the Glory faced to fourth. Rojas claimed foul on Coa for interference, but after a review no action was taken.
7TH RACE – Chalk players were having a good day but took a pounding here as 1-2 Down, making first start since closing to be third in Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet in Dec., was never a serious threat and ended up a disappointing third.
