This is the fact-based tale of John Merrick (John Hurt), a 19th century freak-show attraction born with a disfiguring genetic deformity. Among those attracted to the attraction that Merrick became included London society, as well as the surgeon (Anthony Hopkins) who wanted to save him – and ended up uncovering the sensitive human beneath the horrifying exterior.

ANATOMY OF A MURDER (1959)

An Army lieutenant (Ben Gazzara), claims temporary insanity after he kills a man who allegedly raped his wife, (Lee Remick). He is defended by a small-town lawyer (James Stewart) who hears that the man’s wife has a rep for being loose, while the accused murderer is just a loose canon. Excellent on every level.

BEAUTY SHOP (2005)

Wednesday, 9 p.m., SHO

Queen Latifah is a beautician who’s had it with her high-handed beauty shop boss and opens a shop of her own with her equally fed-up co-worker, played by Alicia Silverstone. Their shop in Atlanta quickly fills up with opinionated women more concerned speaking up than combing out. Really captures the vibe of a small beauty shop.

ENTER THE DRAGON (1973)

Friday, 8 p.m., AMC

.A martial arts expert, Bruce Lee kicks his way into a drug ring by accepting an invitation to compete in a martial arts contest sponsored by – yes -the one-handed crime boss. This is the one that made Bruce Lee a star in the Western hemisphere. So much fun it hurts.
