SENATOR’S WEBB OF DECEIT

THE ISSUE: Democratic Sen. Webb’s response to President Bush’s State of the Union Address.

The Democrats have another new liar: Sen. Jim Webb. His response to President Bush’s address has no basis in fact (“Dems Dump on Energy & Health Agenda,” Jan. 24).

The majority of our soldiers want to complete the mission, and all they ask for is patience. For Webb to say otherwise is typical of the “defeatocrats.”

Rather than ask the Democrats to unify behind a delusional and doomed escalation in Iraq, we should join the demand of war veteran Webb, whose father and son are also military, to respect the will of the voters and their democratically elected officials who will stop this escalation.

The bloodbath that will follow will conveniently exclude Barbara and Jenna Bush, the Cheney kids and the children of almost all members of Congress, except for Sens. Tim Johnson and Webb.

Oh, what a tangle Webb did weave, because Bush set out to deceive.

Since Webb is so grieved that some people earn more than others, he should set an example and cut Congress’ annual salaries by at least $10,000.

If Congress members had to depend upon Social Security, they would be hyperventilating in an attempt to fix it and wouldn’t be paying it out to illegal aliens or others who have not paid in.

If Congress members paid for their own pensions, as we do, taxpayers would be wealthier and more able to invest, expand business and provide more jobs.

Only when our Congress has set the example can it then worry about what we make.
