CHUCK COY ON PREZ HILL

Sen. Chuck Schumer yesterday ducked the question of whether he will do what home-state senators usually do and back fellow New York Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton if she runs for president.

“Hillary Clinton is running for the Senate of the United States [from] New York . . . She is focused on New York,” Schumer told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Asked what he’d do if Clinton announces a run for president, Schumer said, “I will wait till after she wins for the Senate to decide what to do . . . Let’s let her announce first.”

He also sought to dismiss a report that Clinton was almost excluded from a press conference on her pet project that he helped plan, calling the issue “journalistic chatter,” not a sign of rivalry.
