LAW EYES PRO BOWL

JET NOTES

The Pro Bowl rosters are to be announced by the NFL tomorrow, and the Jets have a couple of players with an outside shot of gaining recognition.

Defensive end John Abraham, who has 8 ½ sacks and has been to the game three times already, has a shot, as does LB Jonathan Vilma, who leads the NFL in tackles.

But the most likely Jet Pro Bowler is CB Ty Law, who, even though he hasn’t had a great season, has six INTs and has done that without a training camp, having come back from a serious foot injury.

“I have proven that it wasn’t the Patriot uniform that made Ty Law a good player,” Law said. “I’m still able to make plays in whatever defense I’m in. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone.

“Going to the Pro Bowl would be icing on the cake for the long, hard offseason I had to endure.”

Backup QB Jay Fiedler, who recently had surgery to repair his injured right shoulder, said yesterday he has “no regrets” about the way he and the doctors handled his injury.

Fiedler tried to rehab without surgery in hopes of playing late in the season. But the shoulder never strengthened enough and he finally had to go under the knife.

He said the doctors were “extremely optimistic” about a full recovery.

“I’d love to be a part of the Jets organization,” Fiedler said.

But team sources have indicated it’s virtually impossible to bring back two QBs – Fiedler and Chad Pennington – who both are coming off shoulder surgery. So Fiedler’s days here are surely numbered.

Alcohol won’t be sold during Monday night’s game between the Jets and Pats at the Meadowlands in an attempt to quell rowdy fan behavior.
