Jet Report Card
QUARTERBACKS: A
Brooks Bollinger (28-42, 327 yards, 2 TDs, 106.0 rating) played his best game as a pro. His only mistake was one intentional-grounding penalty. He deserved a win, but couldn’t close it at the end.
RUNNING BACKS: C
Cedric Houston (15-84 rushing, 4-40 receiving) ran well, setting another career best for yards. He, however, lost a fumble that cost the Jets a TD. B.J. Askew (4-5 rushing) was a non-factor.
WIDE RECEIVERS: B
Laveranues Coles (4-53) made a terrific TD reception. Jerricho Cotchery (4-44) made a couple of big catches, as did Justin McCareins (2-57).
TIGHT ENDS: B
Doug Jolley (9-102, TD) had his best game as a Jet, although he fumbled away one ball in Miami territory. Joel Dreessen (2-11) also contributed.
OFFENSIVE LINE: D+
Spotty pass protection at critical times. Brandon Moore had an inexcusable false start at the Miami goal line, as did LT Adrian Jones, who cost the Jets a field goal. Run-blocking was decent.
DEFENSIVE LINE: C
DT Lance Legree had five tackles and the Jets’ only sack. DE John Abraham had some pressures, three tackles and a batted pass.
LINEBACKERS: C
Jonathan Vilma had six tackles, but was called for a very questionable roughing-the-passer penalty that kept a Miami scoring drive alive. Group did an OK job against the run.
SECONDARY: C+
FS Erik Coleman (seven tackles, three passes defensed) was having the best game of his season before he fell down trying to cover WR Marty Booker on a TD catch. SS Kerry Rhodes had four tackles and played well.
SPECIAL TEAMS: C
Justin Miller averaged 22.8 yards on four KO returns and Cotchery had a 30-yarder as well as 4.3 yards on three punt returns. Wes Welker (26.3 average on four KO returns) hurt the Jets.
KICKING GAME: C
Rare James Dearth bad snap on a 21-yard FG attempt cost the Jets three points early. K Mike Nugent made both his FG attempts. P Ben Graham averaged 43.2 yards on five punts but had a low 33.0-yard net.
COACHING: C
It reads like a broken record, but Her man Edwards has his team motivated despite no playoffs to play for.
