A notorious deadbeat dad who once managed the rock band Kiss – and later spent 10 years on the lam – was sentenced to time served yesterday and ordered to pay nearly $163,000 in back child support.
Jesse Hilsen, who is a child psychiatrist, has spent the past 18 months behind bars while awaiting trial on charges he stiffed his ex-wife and two kids.
He was sentenced in Manhattan federal court under a deal that allowed him to plead guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge and retain his medical license in exchange for agreeing return to work and pay off his debt.
Hilsen will be required to fork more than half of his post-tax income each week until he has paid $162,975 in restitution.
The deal sparked outrage from Hilsen’s ex-wife, Rita Hilsen, who has lived in a homeless shelter for the past decade and suspects her former husband is hiding assets that he’ll use to flee the country.
“Justice struck out. It failed us completely. Now he has carte blanche to flee again and never be heard from and never make any restitution,” the ex-wife said.
Hilsen remained jailed due to an arrest warrant in a Family Court case.
