The NYPD’s plan to permanently close streets around the 14th Street Con Edison plant has the community fuming.
Since Sept. 11, two blocks around the plant have been closed for “security reasons” and so Con Ed could complete construction on its East River generating station.
Now the Police Department believes the streets should remain closed indefinitely.
“There’s no doubt the closures have impacted us negatively,” said David Crane, transportation chair of Community Board 3.
