‘DOMESTIC PARTNER’ BOO$T

Domestic partners would be entitled to all benefits and services provided by the city to spouses under a measure introduced yesterday by City Council Speaker Gifford Miller.

Officials said the impetus for the bill came after the Department of Homeless Services required domestic partners to provide additional documentation to prove their relationship.

Some of them were split up and not allowed to use family services, council officials said. Married couples need only show their marriage certificates.

Meanwhile, another measure was introduced requiring every city agency to produce an electronic report card.

They would be required to post data on the Web for all New Yorkers to access.

The lawmakers also approved a slight boost in the council’s $46 million budget.

They OK’d an increase of $675,770 – of which $513,359 went for a rent hike in office space in a building across from City Hall.

The other $162,411 went for raises, which averaged 3 percent for council staff to keep them in line with increases gained by DC 37, the city’s largest municipal union.
